Reader’s Question:

Hi, I’m in Oklahoma, and I’ve never been in an accident before, but I want to know just what to do auto-insurance wise if ever it happens to me.

Dolly

Tulsa, OK

Well, hello, Dolly. Yes, I hope nobody ever figures in an accident. I’ve been in one here in Oklahoma, too, and it was nowhere near pleasant. But if ever it happens, what you need to do first, of course, is to check for any injuries. Some injuries would take hours or days before they appear. It is always best to go see a doctor just to be really sure. And then there’s the matter with the police. Report the accident immediately. Then call your auto insurance company and tell them about the accident.

Speak with the other driver if you figured in a collision accident, and exchange information with him or her: phone number, address and insurance information. This is especially important if the accident was caused by the other driver. You could also look for witnesses and ask for their contact information in case their account of the accident is needed.

So, to sum it up: When you figure in an accident check for any injuries, contact the police, exchange pertinent information with the other driver, contact auto insurance company and check if you can find any witness.

After reporting the accident to the auto insurance, they will then send an insurance adjuster. Be ready to provide what you know to the adjuster. Do not add anything or edit what happened because the adjuster will confirm your story with other sources, too, such as the witnesses’ account, the other driver’s story and the police report.

Reader’s Question:

Hi, I’d like to know more about my auto insurance in Oklahoma. When can I use it? Will it cover me if I ever am in an accident? How much will it cost?

Pia

Broken Arrow, OK

Hi, Pia! Thank you for this question as this gives me a chance to explain some misconceptions against auto insurance. Strictly speaking, auto insurance protects the car, not the passengers. There are instances when auto insurance is used to pay for bodily injuries. Say, for example, you were hit by a car and you had an injury due to the collision.

The driver of the car has the responsibility to pay for all damages done, including those human injuries resulting from automobile collision – he will do so through his auto insurance liability coverage. Similarly, if you were found to be responsible for injuring someone as a result of vehicular accident, you can use your auto insurance liability to pay for medical expenses. But if you’d insist, you can insure yourself as well as your passengers with the auto insurance personal accident coverage. But this coverage will be redundant if you already have a life or health insurance. Your local insurance agent in Oklahoma will be very happy to help you explain the many variations you can do with an auto insurance. You can also shop for free quotes online from websites like this one by filling out the relevant form.

In some cases in Oklahoma, personal accident coverage can be used to pay for the repairs due to a collision. But if you have collision coverage, this automatically takes care of the repairs for the collision. Like with any other insurance, there are many variations that can be done. The most complete which covers all damages to the car aside from collision is comprehensive auto insurance.

I hope that I have shed some light on the matter and that this helps you in your search for an auto insurance, Pia

Reader’s Question:

I am wondering if I should get my own car insurance for the car I am leasing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma OK. I believe it will cost me around $15-$30 in the State of Oklahoma. I do not want to skimp on any insurance, bu is it reallyworth to pay additional dollars on an already costly lease?

Vinny

Oklahoma City, OK

Quite a number have asked me the same question too. It is quite understandabel for you to doubt about spending another $15-$30 per day on top of your lease, which is already expensive on its own. Of course, most people would care less to insure a car which they would need to drive only for a day or two in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma OK. I think all people assume to be safe drivers all the time, don’t you?

So this is a given fact, I know, but you also need to remember that every single day, there can be hundreds of car accidents that can happen, no matter how small. I think insuring your leased car in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma OK will really be worth the risk, especially if you meet an accident at the time when you are out in the road driving a leased car. It could cost you thousands of dollars in damages even if you’re not at fault, and you don’t want to regret spending a great more just because you want to save a few dollars on insurance.

Your regular car insurance policy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma OK may offer a form of leased auto insurance as well but most of the time, it will offer a very limited coverage. The fact is that you never know what comes your way even on a short lease, but still, it would still be up to you.

Manny

Norman, OK

Congrats Norman!

Sounds like fun. It must feel good to achieve such that goal in Norman Oklahoma OK. Luxury auto insurance can be intimidating. Your auto insurance agent can help you but you can also help yourself. To start saving, join a luxury car auto club. These groups often have connections in Oklahoma OK. You may be able to get a discounted luxury auto insurance policy with their help.

While you are looking for that club, take a realistic look at your projected usage. Most luxury auto owners do not drive the vehicle for long spells or very often. If you will drive a limited number of miles, make sure you auto insurance carrier knows the details. The less the exposure, the less you pay.

Some auto insurance companies in Norman Oklahoma OK are not interested in luxury auto coverage. This seems too hard to believe isn’t it? Let’s get that existing agent to work. While you are at it, you may want to connect with the dealer who sold you the car. He may know of competitive luxury auto insurers. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on the fun of owning your new prize. I’d say, simply go for it, Manny!

Reader’s Question:

I just purchased a rider to my auto policy in Midwest City, OK. It is called uninsured motorist coverage. Why do I need this type of auto insurance coverage in Oklahoma? Isn’t everyone required to have auto insurance? What’s the deal?

Cartlton

Midwest City, OK

Right on, Carlton,

Yes, the law in Oklahoma is clear. Everyone is legally bound to have auto insurance in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Unfortunately, it is not a perfect world, which makes your isnurance expereince imperfect too! Today’s economic twists find people scurrying to keep overhead down. Uninsured motorist insurance not only protects the policyholder from the uninsured auto operator but from the driver who has a policy with limits that do not cover damages.

Uninsured auto insurance is worth the investment. The premiums are reasonable, the coverage invaluable. It takes the unexpected out of an auto accident. Uninsured auto insurance covers the policy owner, all declared household members, and your passengers when you are in an accident with a driver who has no insurance or whose limits fail to meet the damage limits. This coverage also protects the declared family members if they are a pedestrian. Uninsured motorist insurance will protect you and hopefully keep you out of the court system.

Typically, uninsured motorist insurance provides funds for medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering when those damages are not able to be paid by the other operator if he is at fault. This insurance is now required in many states. Let’s hope you never have to use your policy though!

Reader’s Question

If I meet an accident in Oklahoma, will I be covered by my auto insurance? When can I use my auto insurance?

Liza

North Cleveland, OK

Thanks for the question, Liza

It’s always good to answer questions that will clarify people’s mind. To start with, auto insurance is not for people. It’s actually for the car. So if you meet accident, you will not be covered by your auto insurance. Rather, you will be covered by health insurance or life insurance in case you have one. However, when you get injured on the road because of someone else’s fault, you can claim their auto insurance liability coverage. Since the liability coverage is the basic auto insurance for all vehicle owners, the at-fault owner or driver will be obliged to pay what’s due you. Meaning, if someone hit you, they can use their auto insurance liability coverage to pay for your medical bills. You can use your liability coverage on your auto insurance when you are the one at fault to somebody as well. Nevertheless, you can actually buy auto insurance personal accident coverage, which usually covers you and your passengers when you meet accident in Oklahoma. But then again, when you have health or life insurance, this will suffice.

Whilst the liability coverage and the personal accident coverage of auto insurance are used for the person, you can generally use auto insurance to cover cost on repairs when the car is damaged. If your auto insurance has collision coverage, it will be used to repair damages due to collision. For comprehensive coverage, all damages of the vehicle aside from collision will be covered by the auto insurance. Generally, the auto insurance will be used to cover costs of damages to the car. The costs to the damages differ according to the coverage of your auto insurance.

Reader’s Question

I understand that auto insurance is important but I wanted to save on my auto insurance here in Lawton, Oklahoma. What will I do?

Sparks

Lawton, OK

Hello Sparks

Almost all people want to save on something. Good thing there are ways in which we can save on auto insurance as well. First, you should have a clear driving record. If your driving record is marked negatively, then auto insurance companies may be hesitant to give you auto insurance or even if they would provide, you will pay high premiums for being a high risk.

Second, you can save on auto insurance by driving on newer car. Old cars usually are at risk for greater damage so auto insurance companies usually charge high premiums for such. If you can’t live with newer car, then just be sure that at least the parts are new.

Another way to save on auto insurance is to install safety and security devices in the car. This is especially true if you are getting collision and comprehensive coverage. Insurance companies usually feel confident on lesser risk against theft and liability when your car is safe and secure against theft and injuries.

Finally, you can save on auto insurance if you keep looking for insurance companies who can give you cheaper premiums in Lawton Oklahoma. Companies differ in their underwriting or judgment in determining price of auto insurance policy. If you have several options for auto insurance provider, you may find the company that offers the cheapest price. Get at least 5 options and choose which among them can give you the best deal.

Hope this helps.

Readers Question:

My name is Clint and I’m not into insurance thing actually. I just want to ask if I still have to add my 17 year old son to my auto insurance policy despite that he is only driving occasionally in Oklahoma?

Clint George

Oklahoma City, OK

Good question, Clint.

I guess, number of fathers will no longer have to ask that since you did the job! All they have to do is to read this thread.

Actually, all licensed household members should be listed in the policy. That security entails the youth members of your family, and let’s be very particular with that. According to the studies, youth people are having high rates of being prone to accidents in Oklahoma and that is of course because of being inexperienced.

If your minor be hurt or hurt someone, you are the one being responsible! And that will literally make you spend more dollars for medical expenses. We need to have some reality check! Those things were not that far from reality right? It truly happens so we have to be always prepared. Not because your son is a careful driver will be a good assurance that he won’t commit any accident. Remember there are many people driving in the roads that do not care a bit if they hurt other motorists.

Let your son enjoy his peace of mind being secured out there while driving in Oklahoma. Call your auto insurance company and make your son be in your list. Wish you luck!
